Highland

Large lots are the hallmark of Highland, covering less than 9 square miles about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.

Scottish Mormon immigrants named the city because of its resemblance to the Scottish Highlands, when they settled it in the 1870s. Today it is the home of many notables, including Thurl Bailey, retired NBA basketball player; Jay Osmond of the Osmond Brothers and novelist Brandon Mull.

It is known locally for its high-end real estate and comfortable communities, some with lots that allow horses. The median price in the fall of 2016 was nearly $580,000 with an average price of more than $638,000. Yet the lowest priced home was just $150,000, while the highest more than $1.49 million.
